Ultimate Guide to Quail Creek State Park
By Ethan Carter · Discover 435
When the summer heat hits St. George, locals head to the water. Here is everything you need to know about navigating Quail Creek State Park like a pro—from beating the boat ramp rush to finding the best paddleboard coves.
Getting There & Entry
- Drive Time: Only 15 minutes from downtown St. George, making it the most accessible reservoir in the county.
- Fees: $20 per vehicle for day use (up to 8 people). If you're a local, buy the annual Utah State Parks pass—it pays for itself in five visits.
- Hours: Open daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Get there before 9 AM on summer weekends or you'll be waiting in line.
Note: The park will temporarily close entry if the parking lots fill up. Have a backup plan (like Sand Hollow) during holiday weekends.
Water Activities
- Paddleboarding & Kayaking: Dig Paddlesports operates right on the beach. You can rent boards by the hour without having to transport them.
- Boating: The main ramp is paved and well-maintained. The water is generally calmer than Sand Hollow, making it great for wakeboarding early in the morning.
- Fishing: Stocked with rainbow trout, bullhead catfish, and crappie. You'll need a valid Utah fishing license.
Tip: The wind picks up in the afternoon. Do your paddleboarding before 1 PM.
Camping Logistics
- The Campground: 24 sites available, all with power and water hookups. It's desert camping, so don't expect much shade.
- Reservations: You must book months in advance for spring and fall. Summer has more availability due to the heat, but you'll definitely want AC in your rig.
- Facilities: Flush toilets, showers, and a fish cleaning station are on-site.

Should I choose Quail Creek or Sand Hollow?
